Family Service Summer Internship Drive-Thru Celebration

To celebrate the amazing work of our 2021 summer interns, we held a drive-thru celebration.

Family Service, in partnership with SA Works, celebrated National Intern Day with a drive-thru event attended by over 100 San Antonio area summer interns and their families.

Family Service paid summer intern program served 200 students ages 14-17 years partnering them with 50 businesses throughout the San Antonio region. The 6-week internships were provided in person and virtually and provided students opportunities across different industries including cyber security, marketing, the medical field, nonprofit sector, and more.

Since 2017, the last Thursday of July has marked National Intern Day, a holiday dedicated to recognizing interns as future leaders. Family Service and SA Works both take this opportunity to recognize the importance of providing paid internship opportunities for San Antonio area students to gain career experience to build San Antonio’s leaders of tomorrow. The over 100 interns who attended the drive-thru celebration were given goody bags, food, refreshments, and incentive items to commemorate the completion of their summer internships.

“Family Service’s Youth Summer Internship Program provides career and personal development opportunities and give employers an opportunity to support our youth and show them potential career opportunities that our teens did not know exist. The combination of virtual and in-person internships bridged the gap of transitioning to a new school year with continuing community challenges due to the pandemic. Thank you to our partners who help make this possible,” said Mary Garr, President & CEO of Family Service.

We want to recognize and thank the interns for their accomplishments as well as their families, guardians, friends, and support networks who helped each of these students complete their internships.
