History
Family Service Neighborhood Place has always been a central point within the Westside community. Over the years, it has transformed to become the community hub it is today.
1947
Family Service Neighborhood Place started as a school. The Neighborhood Place began its life as H.K. Williams Elementary School. But after over 35 years of serving Westside children, the school closed its doors in 2006.
2006-2016
Through leasing the building, Family Service launched the Neighborhood Place. By transforming and re-purposing the former school, Family Service gave new life to the building as a local community center designed to address the specific needs of the surrounding neighborhood.
2016-2019
Family Service purchased the building and began renovations while the Neighborhood Place faithfully served its community and families. With community support, the Neighborhood Place’s doors stayed opened throughout the renovation. Through its hosting of partner and community events, along with Family Service programs, the Neighborhood Place served approximately 60,000 individuals annually.
2019
After a multi-year effort, Family Service was thrilled to unveil the renovated Neighborhood Place. Truly a jewel of the Westside, the Neighborhood Place has resources and activities for the entire community to engage with for years to come.
