3rd Annual National Night Out

Family Service was delighted to host two drive-thru events for National Night Out this year: one in San Antonio and one in La Pryor. Together, these events served over 650 families throughout our communities!

National Night Out is a community event Family Service is dedicated to putting on in a safe, healthy and fun way. With a mission to promote neighborhood camaraderie and make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live, the ideals of National Night Out perfectly align with Family Service’s mission of empowering individuals and families to transform their lives and strengthen our community.

A virtual and drive-thru celebration encouraging our families to have fun together and offering them the opportunity to gain resources as safely as possible ensures no one in our community is left behind due to the pandemic.

San Antonio National Night Out

Our Third Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Family Service Neighborhood Place served over 350 families! The contactless drive-thru saw sponsors and vendors providing resources, activity kits, and promo items to families to celebrate family time, including H-E-B, River City Federal Credit Union, Silver Eagle Beverages, and Superior HealthPlan.

Each car was able to continue the family fun after the drive-thru event with a fun family activity kit; they included supplies to complete each activity and bi-lingual instructions to create a battery-powered light up magic wand, do a 3D shapes activity, and take some time to talk through our feelings and use coloring of faces to explain our feelings.

Each car also received dinner with a hot dog from Curbside Eatz and some snacks provided by H-E-B. $25 Valero gas cards ensured the families’ could replenish the gas they used for drive-thru event.

To include more people in our community, we also hosted a Facebook Live on family health tips with a discussion with H-E-B and Anheuser-Busch Foundation’s program Family Talk About Drinking hosted by Silver Eagle Beverages. The chat with our CEO Mary Garr highlighted the different conversations we can have with our kids at different ages and having open, honest discussions between caregivers and children.

La Pryor National Night Out

Our rural area service team also hosted a National Night Out event! The drive-thru event took place at La Pryor High School and was co-hosted by La Pryor ISD, the La Pryor Sherriff Department, and Family Service.

Though not the first National Night out for our rural area services team, this was the first in La Pryor. The drive-thru event, like our San Antonio one, allowed for families to have a fun night out safely and provided them community resources, free food, and fun promo items.

The event served over 300 families, with 168 youth and 181 adults attending.
