Back to School Events

Community partners come together to ensure our students are prepared for the new school year

The start of the new school year can bring about a certain level of uncertainty; with changes due to the pandemic, students of all age ranges are experiencing a different start to the school year. New school supplies helps boost confidence and excitement and ensure our students are prepared.

This year, our Back to School Events provided school supplies for over 3,000 students throughout San Antonio!

Thank you for supporting our Back to School events! Thank you to Ancira Auto Group, Bank of America, Best Buy, H-E-B, Kendra Scott, La Familia Cortez, Six Flags, Telemundo, and UnitedHealthcare!

8th Annual Ancira Auto Backpack Drive

Ancira Auto Group and Alamo City LX Modern Mopar’s annual backpack drive have helped thousands of students throughout San Antonio be back-to-school ready. This year, they donated over 600 backpacks for various age ranges.

“Studies show, when school kids have confidence, they do better in the school year. Providing these backpacks, paired along with the school supplies from other partners in the Back To School Drive, starts them off to a good start to the school year, and I know they’ll be performing better.”

  • April Ancira, VP Ancira Auto Group

Bank of America: School Supplies Drive

Bank of America team members donated over 300 school supplies items! Team members donated notepads, pencils, rulers, paper, and more to help ensure our entire community is back to school ready.
Bank of America also supports our Youth Summer Internship Program helping students develop soft and technical skills to be workforce ready.

At Bank of America, we believe in the power of education to advance economic opportunity. Partnering with Family Service to provide supplies to hundreds of San Antonio students is an important piece of our work to support students on their paths to success

Best Buy: Volunteer Day

Best Buy team members donated over 900 school supplies items to boost our communities. Over 40 Best Buy team members from stores across San Antonio gathered donations and joined us at Family Service Neighborhood Place.

Best Buy team members gathered the donated supplies and helped create “packets” for our students creating over 300 school supplies packets and 200 FAST activity packets for one of our family after-school programs.

Best Buy sponsors our Best Buy Teen Tech Center at Family Service Neighborhood Place, supplying students with pivotal back-to-school and life skills -– technology. The Best Buy Teen Tech Center is open Monday-Friday during the school year and is a safe, open space for students to freely explore different STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) activities. Mentors from throughout the community help students hone their abilities and prepare them with technological and soft skills for success in future careers and school settings.

H-E-B: School Supplies Packets

H-E-B donated over 1,000 pre-made school supplies packets filled with notepads, pens, pencils, folders, crayons, and more. The kits had items the majority of students would need for the school year and completes their school supplies list for their classes.

At H-E-B, we are guided by our purpose to serve our customers and our communities throughout Texas and right here in San Antonio. As children head back to school, we know our families are experiencing an unprecedented amount of stress due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it's important that we continually support them by providing school supplies and helping organizations like Family Service. It’s our hope that we can help our students succeed both this school year and in all years to come.
