Back to School Events

The start of the new school year can bring about a certain level of uncertainty; students of all age ranges are in need of the supplies necessary to start the year right. New school supplies helps boost confidence and excitement and ensure our students are prepared.

Getting ready for back-to-school can be stressful for both the parents as well as the kids. To help ease the stress of getting kids back to school, Family Service held its 10th Annual Back to School Drive. Family Service partnered with numerous organizations providing needed school supplies to kids in hopes of giving our families a worrisome start to the school year.

With help from our partners, Family Service Back to School Drive was able to provide a new backpack with pens, pencils, writing paper, markers, crayons, and other essentials. This year, Family Service collected more than 500 backpacks and more than 3000 school supplies.

Long-time partners in this campaign are Ancira Auto Group and Alamo City LX Modern Mopar. Both organizations collected backpacks during July from various donors. They were dropped off at Ancira Auto Group stores in San Antonio, Boerne, and Floresville.

“Studies have shown that kids who go to school prepared for the year have a greater level of confidence and, thus, perform better in school,” said April Ancira, vice president of Ancira Auto Group. “We are a family-run organization, and we not only feel it is our duty to help those kids go back to school with their best foot forward, but our hearts want to lift them up as well.”

This campaign was generously supported by numerous volunteer groups from Bank of America, Best Buy, FedEx, Students of Service, St. Mary’s University, University of Incarnate Word, and CPS Energy!

Bank of America team member volunteers, just one of many organizations, donated over 400 school supplies, such as notepads, pencils, rulers, paper, and more, to help ensure our entire community is back to school-ready. They also volunteered their time to stuff the backpacks.

“At Bank of America, we believe in the power of education to advance economic opportunity,” said Jennifer Cantu, SVP, San Antonio Market Manager, Bank of America. “Partnering with Family Service to provide supplies to hundreds of San Antonio students is an important piece of our work to support students on their paths to success.”

Ensuring that our children are school-ready really takes a village of organizations. Family Service would like to thank all of our partners and donors who made this year’s campaign possible. Those organizations are Alamo City LX Modern Mopar, Ancira Auto Group, Best Buy, Six Flags, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Frost Bank. Family Service is grateful to be a part of such a great community that helps ensure our communities’ children have the school supplies needed to be successful on the first day of school.

Our Family Service clients are so thankful for the assistance with school supplies for their children. Many have noted that without this assistance, they would not have been able to prepare their children for school.

One family member said, “Thank you for all your help! We are so happy to be a part of Family Service; thank you for the backpacks!”
