ANGELS Early Childhood Classroom Support and Substitutes Training

Gain the skills to work in a licensed or registered child care program

The Access Network of Early Learning Substitutes (ANGELS) is a two-week, 40 hour, early care and education training program. Whether you are starting your career in early childhood education, trying to take the next step, or looking for a fulfilling job, this class will help you feel more confident and prepared as you enter classrooms.

The next ANGELS course will be held in July. Register today!
The two-week program meets daily Monday through Friday. Through the free training, participants receive:

  • 24 pre-service training hours to meet the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) requirements for new providers
  • First aid and CPR certificates
  • 18 hours of training to count towards the annual training requirement
  • 12 hours of practicum allowing for hands-on experience in high-quality early education sites for children birth to five years of age

Overview

The ANGELS training is structured to address the skills and knowledge required for working in a childcare facility licensed by the State of Texas.

Topics will include health and safety, nutrition, child development, state licensing requirements, child abuse and neglect, and reporting requirements. The certification opens a pathway for career development and to create a foundation for work experience.

After the completion of the ANGELS program, 90% of our participants gain employment.

Upon completion of the training program, participants are highly encouraged to secure part-time employment with Family Service as a Classroom Support Substitute I. For continuing education opportunities, we urge our students to think about the CDA credential.

Take the first step in your career in early childhood education. Become a qualified substitute today.

Testimonials

Making a Difference

My name is Bea Moreno Ramirez. I went through the A.N.G.E.L.S. program with Family Service and became a Classroom Support Substitute. I was also able to take the Child Development Associates (CDA) Credential Class while I worked. I now have my CDA and am working full time as a caregiver with the Bexar County Children’s Court.

FAQS

Find the answers to your questions here

Do I need to attend the class every day?

Participants are required to attend class from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday through Friday for the scheduled two weeks. Missed classes will be assessed on an individual basis.

Can I bring my child to training?

We now offer daycare during our ANGELS class! Children will not be in the same room as instruction, to help with distractions, but will be provided for by licensed professionals in the same building.

Where is the training held?

Due to COVID, our ANGELS classes are currently occurring virtually.

Once classes begin again in person, the ANGELS training program takes place at Family Service Neighborhood Place. There is a bus line directly in front of the Neighborhood Place.

Will I be paid if I become employed by Family Service as a Classroom Support or High-Quality Substitute?

Yes! All Family Service employers are paid, whether they are part-time or full-time. Pay varies depending on experience and credentials.

What is the cost to attend ANGELS?

The training program is completely free!
